About the author, Gayle McLauchlan
The McLauchlans were well known in business in the area. Great-grandfather, James began his confectionery business in Williamsford in 1869, then moved to Owen Sound to join up with Wm. Anderson in the baking business.
It then became McLauchlan & Sons Company Ltd. In 1904 he sold to his sons and in 1926 the firm was sold to National Grocers.
She lives in Owen Sound, has a cottage at Balmy Beach, and is mother to two grown children. Craig LaChance, living in Camrose, Alta., and Nanci LaChance Caldwell (Mrs. Jeff Caldwell) of Chatsworth.
Other interests are her two grandsons, Austin Caldwell (1996) and Connor Caldwell (1997), golfing, playing cards and Scrabble.

After a courageous battle, on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce at the age of 70. Gayle, loving mother of Craig LaChance and his wife Bridget, and Nanci Caldwell. Proud Grandma of Austin, Connor, Nadine, and Logan (Amanda). Great Grandma of Addison, Nolan and Davis. Dear mother-in-law of Jeff Caldwell of Chatsworth. Very special friend of Lois Green. Predeceased by her parents Scott & Jean McLauchlan.
